Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, ESID is working on Political Economy Analysis (PEA), gender and a comparative study with Ghana on education. Our main partner in Bangladesh is BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD).

Bolivia

Bolivia is one of four countries included in an ESID project tracking the history of natural resource extraction in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.

Cambodia

Cambodia has two projects that both engage with ESID’s work on political settlements – one is focused on growth, while the other addresses social provisioning.

Ethiopia

ESID research is investigating Ethiopia’s advancement in the expansion of social protection.

Ghana

In Ghana ESID is working on Political Economy Analysis (PEA), public sector reform and natural resources, with a focus on oil. There is also a comparative study with Bangladesh on education, and Ghana is one of the four countries involved in a cross-national study on gender. ESID is working closely with the Center for Democratic Development (CDD).

India

ESID’s research in India focusses on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and urban poverty. There is also a project developing a research approach for work on the politics of state-business relations in India, among other countries. The main institutional partner in India is the Institute of Economic Growth in Delhi.

Kenya

ESID research is investigating Kenya’s advancement in the expansion of social protection.

Malawi

Malawi is one of the countries involved with an ESID project on the politics of public sector reform. In Malawi, ESID is working with Chancellor College at the University of Malawi.

Peru

Peru is one of four countries included in an ESID project tracking the history of natural resource extraction in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.

Rwanda

In Rwanda ESID is engaged with two cross-national studies, one on gender and the other on public sector reform.

South Africa

ESID’s research in South Africa is focussing on agency-level performance and basic education at national, provincial and school levels. This work is being led by the Graduate School of Development Policy and Practice at the University of Cape Town.

Uganda

Uganda is engaged in the gender, political economy analysis (PEA) and public sector reform projects, which are all multi-country studies. There is also a project on natural resources, with a focus on oil. ESID research in Uganda is influencing the next National Development Plan (2016-2020) and DFID’s work on political economy analysis.

Zambia

Zambia is one of four countries included in an ESID project tracking the history of natural resource extraction in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.

There are several ESID projects that are working across multiple countries, with no particular emphasis on any one of them.
